Google switch to Mac and Linux
Google employes worldwide are replacing Windows across its entire company due to security concerns. According to a few sources from the company, the decision comes as consequence when Google China was hacked. The investigation shows that attacks used security vulnerability in Windows.
The report was first reported by the Financial Times which cited several Google employees. “We’re not doing any more Windows. It is a security effort,” said one Google employee.
Other employees have migrated from Windows to MacOS or Linux and the new Google employees have an option to choose only from MacOS and Linux not Windows. Since January, Windows can be installed only on personal laptops, but Mac OS X or Linux was required for all desktop computers. This is potentially god and bad for both Mac and Linux because in future they may become a target for new hackers attack.
Most important – within the company, employee reactions were strictly optimistic, building a non-stress and secure working environment based on Mac and Linux. We hope that other companies will follow Google and will migrate from Windows to more secure Linux or MacOS.
I am undecided. It is good that Mac and Linux technology is being used more and more in the business environment, but you make a good point that this may only attract hackers and the same thing will happen to mac and linux as windows.
