FFmpeg 0.6 released

There is a more than a year from last FFmpeg 0.5 release and now the new version comes with a lot of improvements relevant to HTML5 video – included support for Google’s VP8 codec / WebM and H.264 video.

FFmpeg 0.6 has support for Google VP8 – video codec of WebM container format. According to the FFmpeg.org announcements, “The H.264 and Theora decoders are now significantly faster, the vorbis decoder has seen important updates and this release supports Google’s newly released libvpx library for the VP8 codec and WEBM container.”

There is also other important changes like included new decoders: Intel Indeo 5, WMA Pro, WMA Voice and HE-AAC and other, RTP packetization/de-packetization support for a number of new codecs, ARM optimizations, and much more.
