Windows 7 tip: If you have changed your User Account Control settings to Never notify, by default Gadgets will not be displayed on the desktop.

A simple registry change should solve the problem:

1. Start Regedit
2. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Sidebar \ Settings
3. Right-click on the right panel and create a new DWORD (32-Bit) Value named AllowElevatedProcess.
4. Double click on this and give it a value of 1
