Athlon II X2s bug, but no room for panic

By Detector | 11 June 2009

AMD reports on specific issues in the recently presented 45nm CPU Athlon X2 II. The bug affects the processor clocks up after energy-saving Cool ‘n’ Quiet technology is enabled.

The technology don’t clock up the core when gets addressed with a new process (at least not immediately) as it was designed and it can significantly affect on system performance. Error engages all models of Athlon X2 II 250, and AMD suggest, as a temporary solution to turn off Cool n ‘Quiet. The good news is that, the bug is not a hardware problem (unlike TLB bug in the first generation Phenom), and a solution is possible with upgrading the processor microcode.

Upgrades will be distributed in form of new BIOS versions of the motherboard producers, so there is no room for panic.
