Geolocation (Geocoding) is coming into GNOME as presented in FOSDEM. There are plenty of new tech gadgets that can use this technology and it’s time to bring that usability in Gnome.

Geocoding is the process of finding associated geographic coordinates (latitude and longitude) from other geographic data, such as street addresses, or zip codes (postal codes). With geographic coordinates the features can be mapped and entered into Geographic Information Systems, or the coordinates can be embedded into media such as digital photographs via geotagging. Reverse Geocoding is the opposite: finding an associated textual location such as a street address, from geographic coordinates. (Wikipedia)

Geolocation is available now as EOG plugin that you can download and test here. This technology will be first integrated in Gnome 2.27 code allowing smooth testing before final Gnome 2.28 release.
