Windows tip: How to increase folder cache in windows (more of 400 folders)

By Detector | 12 January 2009

Maybe you don’t know, but the default setting for WindowsXP is to cache the Explorer settings for 400 folders. To increase it (if you need to store more of 400 folders) you must make minor changes in your windows registry file and do next steps:

  1. Start Regedit
  2. Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ ShellNoRoam
  3. Change the vaule of BagMRU to whatever size you want (hex):
    1. 1000 – 3e8
    2. 2000 – 7d0
    3. 3000 – bb8
    4. 4000 – fa0
    5. 5000 – 1388
