Amarok 2.0 released

After almost 2 years of heavy development, Amarok 2.0 was released today. This release brings a tons of cool new features to the player, and provides new API platform on which, future improvements will be added.

The new features are:

  • Completely user interface redesign
  • Integration of Internet content and services such as Magnatune, Jamendo, MP3tunes, Last.fm and Shoutcast
  • Brand new playlist
  • Migration from the KDE 3 to KDE 4 framework, and utilization of core technologies such as Solid, Phonon, and Plasma
  • And many other improvements. Read more here.

Amarok 2.0 is available for all major Linux distributions. As a result of heavy KDE4 development for Windows and Mac OS X, Amarok 2 is available as a “Beta” or test version on those platforms too. There will be a bugfix release of Amarok in the next few months. And also, becouse not all features from the 1.4 are in Amarok 2, many of these missing features, like queuering and filtering in the playlist, and others will return within a few releases.
