Thunderbird mail notifier (minimize to tray) for Windows XP and Vista
I use Thunderbird a lot, but running all the time minimized on my taskbar is really a mess with many open apps, so I always wanted a little Thunderbird notification icon on the taskbar notification section, so it will work in the background and notify me for every new mail a get. I found an easy way to do that for both Windows (XP, Vista) and Ubuntu (Ubuntu users click here) operating systems and must say that I really enjoy in this excellent feature.
First you must download and install Thunderbird. For doing that go to the official Thunderbird web page and download or click here.
After installing and setting up your Thunderbird, download (minimize to tray) extension from here.
On Thunderbird menu go to Tools/Add On/Extension section, and drag and drop downloaded .xpi file inside the window. Click install and restart Thunderbird. To set up newly installed plugin, go again to Tools/Add On/Extension section and click options, so click on check boxes as is shown on picture.
The tiny Thunderbird icon will show up at notification taskbar area everytime or minimize or when clicking close button (depends on your settings), so use double click for restoring Thunderbird of notification icon, or for closing right click and then close Thunderbird. Now you will be notified everytime when new message is arrived. That it’s. Enjoy.

Does the above extention work like KOO MAIL CLIENT, in that a tray icon lives in the tray and lights up or flashes when new mail arrives in THUNDERBIRD 3.1? I cannot find any info on a tray mail notifier anywhere on the site that matches this description. It seems to me there should be a notifier built into the client easily activated and moved to the tray. At present the only way to check for mail is to open TB from the desktop icon. Not very useful.
