Speed up computer: Update your BIOS
If you want to get the maximum performance and stability of your system, you must make regular update of your motherboard’s BIOS and make sure that you are using the latest version of your motherboard’s BIOS. Latest version always has new improvements which are not visible but it will help in increasing speed of your computer.
Motherboard manufacturers periodically release updated BIOS versions for their products, which are designed to be written over the older software. The process of BIOS ‘flashing’ involved used:
- A bootable floppy to start the computer in DOS, then
- Using the motherboard companies BIOS programming software in combination with
- The newest BIOS version that you had acquired to update the motherboard.
But most manufacturers these days now offer more user friendly BIOS updating methods, some working within Windows or Linux itself. Those methods are offered at the web site of Motherboards manufactures. Check the website of your motherboard manufacturer for updated BIOS versions and the software to install them, which will include instructions.
Check the current version number of your motherboard on the POST screen and within the BIOS settings screen (Press ESC, F2 or other keyboard key – depending of your BIOS version – immediately after start of your computer).
