Website traffic and how to get it?

By Detector | 25 September 2008

If you are running web site or blog you already know that website traffic is essential! Traffic is one of the key components of your website. If you have no traffic to your website you are not going to get anyone buying your products or reading your articles and you will become just a waste of space and digital dust in this internet era. But, the question is: how to get traffic?

According to my research there is 3 well known ways to get traffic:

Create traffic!
This is the best way to start bringing people into your website, and of course the hardest to accomplish. There is zillions ways to start creation traffic but in this article I will explain the most popular.

  1. Articles. Writing articles about your chosen niche, advice, definitions, tips, news, reviews, etc. Once you have created your articles you can put them on your website or blog as content. The practice is to upload link of the articles to article directories or even assemble a few of them into a white paper or eBook. (doc or PDF) and share it with your visitors.

  2. Video. The biggest traffic comes of video materials. There are videos for everything. YouTube has made it possible for anyone to upload their videos for the whole world to see. Just as you can create an article about anything you can do the same thing with video.

The best traffic option is to do both: Article and Video.

Pay for traffic!
The term is Pay Per Click advertising. Known PPC kings are Google, Yahoo, Chitika, Bidvertiser, AdBrite, AdToll etc. The scheme is simple:

  1. You create your account, grab a several of keywords and create your adverts. You can define the amount you want to spend per click or per day, what geographical areas you want your adverts to appear in and even what time they should appear.

  2. When someone types one of your keywords into for example Google your advert will be displayed down the right hand side of the natural search results. If the searcher then chooses to click on your advert and gets forwarded to your website you will get charged for that click.
  3. The price you pay for each individual click depends on a variety of conditions such as how many other people are competing on that keyword. The more competition the more it costs to be higher up the ranks. The position you want to occupy. The percentage of people who click on your advert, the list goes on.

Pay Per Click advertising can be very successful, but you need to pay for it.

Borrow traffic!
Borrowing traffic will be effective just for certain niches.

  1. The first method – link exchange: this is where you put links to another website on your site and they put links back to you on theirs. However this traffic is not always targeted.

  2. The second method is a joint venture called JP. This is essentially where you would contact another marketer or company who had products that complements yours. If they are interested they may send a mailing out to their list or put an entry in their blog alerting their visitors about you and your relevant products.

The key of borrowing traffic is that you have to give something in return. This works only then you are targeted of very successful web sites.

I wish you a lot of success in your site promotion!

Buying articles is not a great idea…especially if you do not get an exclusive license to use them. What good is the same article if thousands of people call it their own? If you do outsource your article writing to ghost writers, make sure you have an exclusive right or license to the works.

My brother suggested I might like this blog. He was entirely right. This submit actually made my day. You can not believe simply how so much time I had spent for this information! Thanks!
